• When will Oregon's leadership start prioritizing small business?

    • Share:
Small business makes up an impressive portion of Oregon’s economy. Just take a look at these statistics from 2023:
    • There are nearly 400,000 small business in Oregon
    • Small business makes up just over 99% of businesses in Oregon
    • 54% of Oregonians work for a small business
    • Small businesses were responsible for 80% of new job growth
But there is a stark contrast between the importance of small business to the state and the environment they operate in. Here are the numbers from CNBC’s Top States for Business Ranking for that same year:
    • Oregon ranks 31st in the cost of doing business
    • Oregon’s economy ranks 26th in the nation
    • The average entry rate for businesses is the 41st highest
    • The average exit rate for businesses is the 11th highest
So, if small business is this important to our economy, why the drastic gap?

Elected leaders in Oregon need to prioritize the success of small businesses. Employers cannot continue to carry the heavy regulatory burden and rising taxes. But until we change the political environment, our business climate will stay stagnant at best, or worse, continue to erode.

The Defend Small Business PAC believes we need to turn the business climate around in this state. We can’t expect this to happen without small business champions in our elected leadership. Small donations make a big difference in our ability to fight.
