In February 2023, the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office of Small Business Assistance released a study which analyzed how our state agencies engage with small businesses in the rulemaking process. The Legislature established the Small Business Rules Advisory Committee in 2018 and was put into statute. However, the study revealed that this committee has not met or been formally organized. This means that state agencies are not engaging with the very businesses who will likely bear the brunt of these administrative burdens.
Small businesses deserve better.
Rules and regulations for business are often complicated – and they are constantly changing. Even if there are no new hard costs associated with regulations, the time it takes to understand and comply means small business owners are spending more time trying to meet state obligations and less time on running their business.
The Defend Small Business PAC knows that creating a strong business climate must be supported by our government agencies. If it’s not, the consequences to our economy and local communities could be severe.
Small business needs a champion. Small donations make a big difference in our ability to fight.
