We don’t often think of law enforcement as a business issue, but we can no longer ignore that fact that it is. Public safety and business success go hand in hand.
The impact of crime and homelessness in our public spaces is clearly hurting business. Theft, vandalism and property damage lead to higher costs for insurance premiums and expensive security measures, in addition to the costs of replacement or repair. Our employees don’t feel safe.
Worse, when law enforcement is not given the ability or resources by elected leaders to protect our communities, it only emboldens criminals.
Because of the disturbing trends we see in Oregon, the Defend Small Business PAC is endorsing Will Lathrop for Attorney General.
In 2024, the race for Attorney General is an important one to the business community. Will laws be enforced or not? Will criminal activity be deterred or not?
One candidate - Dan Rayfield - has been a long-time legislator whose voting record on priority issues for the business community has been weak, as seen from his 58% score for the 2023-24 session and a dismal 15% in 2021-22.
Meanwhile, Will Lathrop, has been actively engaging with business communities across the state through local chambers of commerce, showing a desire to understand the issues small businesses face in order to better support them. But more importantly, he’s simply tougher on crime.
This is why the Defend Small Business PAC has endorsed Will Lathrop for Oregon Attorney General.
