• Is Oregon's business climate really that bad?

In June, Oregon Office of Economic Analysis released the revenue forecast and another rosy outlook for Oregon’s economy. It stated that the economic outlook looked solid, with the General Fund expected to be 2.5% above the Close of Session Forecast for the 2023-25 biennium due to higher-than-expected tax revenues. Governor Kotek issued a response stating, “Oregon’s economy continues to be stable and productive. We have made meaningful progress on issues of top concern for Oregonians and worked to move our economy in the right direction.”

But the reality is not as rosy as Oregon’s leaders are painting it.

Oregon is currently ranked 42nd in the United States for its economic outlook according to the 2024 Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index, which assesses state competitiveness and economic outlook. Even more troubling is the fact that Oregon ranked 49th for top marginal personal income rate, top marginal corporate income tax rate and personal income tax progressivity.

This is not a formula for a healthy economy.

The Defend Small Business PAC believes Oregon’s leaders need to be more focused on creating an environment that allows small business success to drive economic growth, not increased tax revenues.
This won’t happen without electing small business champions. Small donations make a big difference in our ability to fight.

    Will you stand with us?
